Uniform

At The Stonebridge School, we believe that wearing school uniform promotes a sense of belonging and helps pupils to feel part of our school community.

We are committed to keeping the cost of school uniform affordable for families. Our uniform is designed to be practical, inclusive and provide good value for money. We keep the number of compulsory branded items to a minimum and allow families to purchase generic items from any suitable retailer.

Branded School Items

The following items are required to carry The Stonebridge School logo:

- Red school jumper or cardigan
- School polo shirt
- Red PE T-shirt

Pupils in Key Stage 2 are also required to wear a school tie.

Branded uniform items are available to purchase directly from the school office.

Standard School Uniform

Pupils should wear:

- Grey or black trousers, or a grey or black skirt/dress
- White or grey socks, or black, grey or white tights
- Plain black shoes or plain black shoe trainers. Footwear must be entirely black and must not have flashing lights
- A plain black, grey or white hijab, where worn

These items do not need to carry the school logo and can be purchased from any retailer, provided that they meet the school’s uniform requirements.

Summer Uniform

After the Easter holiday, pupils may wear:

- Grey or black shorts or culottes
- A red checked summer dress, if desired

These are alternatives to the usual trousers or skirt and are not additional compulsory items.

PE Kit

For PE, pupils should wear:

- A red school-logo PE T-shirt
- Plain black or grey shorts or jogging bottoms
- Plain black plimsolls or trainers

PE kit should be suitable for physical activity and appropriate for the activity and weather conditions.

Swimming Kit

When pupils take part in swimming lessons, they should bring:

- A swimming costume or swimming shorts
- A swimming cap

Reasonable adjustments to swimming kit will be considered where required for religious, cultural, sensory, physical or other individual needs.

Jewellery and Appearance

For health and safety reasons, jewellery should not normally be worn in school. Pupils may wear one pair of small stud earrings.

Pupils may be required to remove earrings for PE, swimming or other activities where wearing them could present a safety risk.

Hair should be suitable for school and should not interfere with pupils’ learning or participation in school activities. Long hair may be required to be tied back where necessary for health and safety.

The school will make reasonable adjustments to its uniform expectations where appropriate, including for pupils with disabilities, sensory or physical needs, or on religious grounds.

Buying School Uniform

Branded school uniform is available to purchase directly from The Stonebridge School. Parents and carers should visit the school office to purchase these items.

Generic, non-branded uniform items may be purchased from any suitable retailer or supermarket. Families are not required to purchase these items from a particular supplier, provided that they meet the school’s uniform requirements.

Second-Hand Uniform

Good-quality second-hand uniform is available directly from the school, subject to availability, for both current and prospective pupils.

Parents and carers who would like second-hand uniform should contact or visit the school office. Requests will be handled discreetly.

Families are encouraged to contact the school office in good time, particularly before their child starts at the school or before the beginning of a new school year, so that available items can be provided in a timely manner.

Keeping Uniform Affordable

The Stonebridge School is committed to keeping uniform costs reasonable and providing good value for money for families.

We:

- Keep compulsory branded items to a minimum
- Allow generic items to be purchased from a retailer of the family’s choice
- Make second-hand uniform available
- Avoid unnecessary changes to our uniform requirements
- Consider the financial impact on families when changes are proposed
- Regularly review our uniform requirements to ensure they remain affordable and provide good value for money

If a family is experiencing difficulty with the cost of school uniform, please contact the school. Requests will be treated sensitively and we will work with families to find an appropriate solution.

School Uniform Policy

Full details of our uniform requirements, affordability arrangements, reasonable adjustments and responsibilities are available in our School Uniform Policy (to be ratified).

The policy is reviewed annually by the Headteacher and approved by the Full Governing Board. The next review is due in September 2027.
